WHAT IS CONCRETE CAULKING?

To help prevent water erosion that damages the concrete subsoil base and leads to concrete settling and cracking, Lakes Area Mudjacking offers concrete caulking and sealing services to prolong the life of your concrete, thereby reducing the need for expensive replacement.
What are its advantages?
- Most all concrete is installed with a slope to force surface water in a predetermined direction, i.e. away from the building or from a driveway to the street. When the original expansion joint deteriorates or control joints and cracks open up, water has the opportunity to get below the concrete and saturate subsoil allowing erosion to begin, which undermines the concrete causing settling and cracking. By caulking these cracks and joints the surface water will continue to flow on top of the concrete as it was designed to do and extending the life of your concrete by many years.
- Caulking prevents moisture from getting between the cracks and joints during the winter freeze/thaw cycles helping to reduce or eliminate the deterioration along the edges which create an eyesore and potentially dangerous tripping hazards.
- Caulking helps prevent the subsoil under the concrete from becoming saturated during the winter months by surface water entering thru open cracks and joints in the concrete. When this saturated subsoil freezes, it expands causing the concrete to heave and become uneven. The repetitive heaving during winter months and settling when the ground thaws causes damage to the concrete.
- Caulking helps prevent unwanted vegetation from growing in cracks and joints and can reduce or prevent damage caused by pests and insects.

How we remedy it
Lakes Area Mudjacking cleans the cracks and joints then seals them with a polyurethane caulk/sealant. Polyurethane caulk is the premium sealant product in the industry designed specifically for use in concrete cracks and joints.
